Traditional meets contemporary with this kitchen.
Our client came to us with a unique renovation in a rural setting that melded two old school classrooms with an entirely new middle section. She also had two 900mm wide cooking appliances she wanted incorporated in her kitchen, a coal range and a freestanding oven.
The brief was to design a kitchen sympathetic to both the modern building materials used in the centre of the house and to the older adjacent sections and rural setting. Wow factor was also very important, and as she did not want a white kitchen colour was used to achieve this.
The ply bookcase at the end of the breakfast bar mirrors the ceiling panels (though by using the lighter ply than the ceiling it also creates a contrast in the room), while the cabinet front detail pays subtle homage to the classic country kitchen and creates a complimentary surround to the traditional style of the coal range and oven.
